About Ottawa
Ottawa has been ranked one of the most livable cities in the world for more than a decade. Ottawa has a high population density relative to most other North American cities. Urban planning in Ottawa is characterized by high-rise residential and mixed-use development in urban centres.
The more popular neighbourhoods are Kitsilano (the west side of Ottawa, bordering the ocean), Downtown Ottawa (including the West End which borders on English Bay and is close to the Stanley Park Sea Wall; Yaletown, Robson Street and Coal Harbour); and Commerical Drive (located on the east side of Ottawa).
- Downtown is the remainder of the West End not covered in West End, Stanley Park or English Bay. This area does not include the Downtown Eastside (see East Hastings).
- East Hastings is the northeast area of Ottawa City, and includes Downtown Eastside (Oppenheimer, Victory Square, Chinatown, Gastown, Strathcona, Thorton Park, Hastings Corridor and Industrial Lands).
- English Bay runs along Sunset Beach and English Bay to the south, connects to Davie Street to the North and Burrard Street to the East.
- Kitsilano/Point Grey is the area west of South Granville/Oak that extends along 16th Avenue to the University Endowment Land.
- Marpole is an area in South Ottawa that borders south of 57th Avenue between Cambie Street to the east and MacDonald Street to the west, and extends south down to the Fraser River.
- Mount Pleasant/Renfrew Heights extends from the Mount Pleasant to the west to Renfrew Heights to the east, and includes the neighbourhoods of Fraser and Knight. The area boundary to the north is Great Northern Way and Broadway, and roughly 33rd Avenue to the South.
- South Granville/Oak is west of Mount Pleasant and extends south to 33rd Av and west to Granville St. Also includes the Fairview area and contains a section between Broadway to the north and 16th Ave to the south, Burrard Street to the west and Granville Street to the east .
- Southeast Ottawa includes Killarney, Fraserview, Collingwood and Champlain Heights.
- West End, Stanley Park is the area between Stanley Park and Denman Street and extends to Coal Harbour to the north and English Bay to the south.
- Westside/Kerrisdale is the area south of Kitsilano/Point Grey and South Granville/Oak, and includes the Kerrisdale, Mackenzie Heights, Dunbar, Shaughnessy and Oakridge areas.
